Information, Evidence and Research (IER) for the World Health Organization (WHO)

The overall aim of the World Health Organization's (WHO) work in health and human rights is to ensure that the public health guidance to its Member States promotes and reinforces their human rights obligations. WHO supports its Member States to integrate a human rights based approach to health by making human rights an integral dimension of the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of health related polices, legislation and programs. WHO also facilitates the integration of human rights based approach to all areas of its own work, from mental health to neglected diseases. Lastly, WHO advocates for increase attention to health on the international human rights agenda and forges partnership with other stakeholders in the human rights field. The Health and Human Rights (HHR) Team serves as a focal point for the health and human rights activities of WHO both internally and externally. The Team provides support to WHO technical departments, regional and country offices. It also supports health and human rights trainings, drafts various kinds of publications and develops tools on health and human rights themes for in house use and wider circulation.
